About me

Matthew
Austin Pye.

I lead video, 3D animation and motion design from story to final delivery, with experience in senior creative direction and managing teams of different sizes. I understand the full production pipeline and work alongside the people I lead.

I founded a commercial video and filmmaking company before moving into studio leadership. I co-wrote, co-directed and produced Concrete Savanna, an independent horror feature, and helped secure its distribution.

My hands-on experience spans video production and editing, 3D animation, motion design, virtual production and compositing. I combine established production techniques with custom AI workflows, and I’ve taught myself to code so I can build solutions when the tools don’t quite fit the idea.

How I work.

I start with the story: what we need to say, who it’s for, and how it should feel.

I study visual references and use storyboards and animatics to work out the structure, pacing and key moments before production. I keep a close eye on composition, color, lighting and movement as the work develops.

I lead with curiosity and make room for ideas from across the team. Then I bring the work into focus, making clear decisions about what serves the story. I stay hands-on through look development, animation and the final edit.

The tools will always change. I’ve spent my career building the artistic judgment, technical understanding and adaptability to put them to work.

Case studies

Virtual production

Lyda

For Lyda, I used virtual production to take a brand story beyond the familiar. I led the creative direction and worked hands-on across production, giving each world its own character while keeping the story connected.

Brand identity / Motion design

3rds

3rds needed a character of its own and room for other brands to imagine themselves within it. I helped develop the visual identity and motion guidelines around that balance: a distinctive creative world with space for possibility.

A recognizable world.
Room to imagine.

The design needed to hold together while leaving room for each client’s ambitions. I helped develop a shared palette, recurring forms and motion guidelines that gave 3rds a point of view without narrowing the possibilities.

Event videos / 3D & motion

PayPal
Onward.

I approached PayPal’s Onward event as a world to build, with “progress with purpose” guiding the visual direction. Across two videos, bold geometry, brand color and movement give that idea a physical presence.

Developing the
visual language.

I explored how PayPal’s identity could live in space: the scale of a room, the feel of a surface, the path from one scene to the next. These studies show the visual decisions taking shape.

Independent game / In development

Blackstar
Lullaby

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mancer Studio on Blackstar Lullaby, bringing my sense of story and visual direction to an indie game in development. The cinematic work explores how atmosphere and pacing can draw you into a world before its story unfolds.

Inside the game

Interactive character experience

The Lincoln
Experience

The ambition was to make history feel like a conversation. I developed the experience from character to code, bringing Lincoln’s voice, presence and supporting imagery together around what each visitor asks.

Making the conversation
feel connected.

A convincing exchange depends on more than an answer. I designed the character, voice and supporting content to respond as parts of one experience, so the technology could serve the feeling of speaking with Lincoln.

I built the Unreal Engine character and connected it to language models and voice synthesis, then developed the logic that selects imagery from each response. Creative direction and development informed each other throughout.

Brand videos / Generative AI

Boxd

I turned the material at the heart of Boxd’s service into the character of its brand videos. A world made from cardboard gives a practical idea a playful identity, carried consistently across two videos made with generative AI.

Cardboard as a
visual language.

Cardboard became the rule for the whole world. I carried its texture and construction through characters, homes and landscapes, giving the service a visual identity rooted in what it does. Across both videos, I directed the AI production around that idea, with a consistent eye for style and storytelling.

Independent feature / 2021

Concrete
Savanna

Concrete Savanna gave me room to follow a story from the first page to the screen. I co-wrote, co-directed and produced the independent horror feature, and helped secure its distribution. It’s where my visual instincts meet the demands of a longer narrative.
